Bed Rest Blogging

It seems like blogs are going the way of the dodo these days.  I'm not sure if its due to the influx of Facebook users or the people I follow on blogs are getting too busy with their lives.  I know for me its the easy access and high readership of FB.

I originally started our family blog to keep Aaron's family updated on things in our lives.  Now that FB seems to have a better following it seems like that is the better media network for keeping them informed.  Although, I can't really look back in my FB profile as well as I can on our family blog.  So, I suppose this blog still has a purpose, even if I lag in updating it.

The above picture was taken at a baby shower that a few girlfriends of mine threw for August and I.  I was 31 weeks and 2 days along when it was taken.  It was early the next morning that I ended up in the hospital with pre-term contractions.  So, today marks 2 weeks of bed rest.  Bed rest and I are not suited for one another.

I struggle with not being able to pull my weight in the home, not being able to go out and about, not being able to go on family adventures, and not being able to participate in the kids school activities, among other things.

On the other hand, its interesting having bed rest at a time that would otherwise be crazy hectic.  I see status updates of shopping, parties, things-to-do, and the like and think to myself that the only stress I have this holiday season is keeping this baby cooking.  Another plus of bed rest during this time of year is that my scenery from the couch is that of a lit Christmas tree, nativity scenes, and hanging stockings.  Another benefit is all the holiday cards we receive.  I know they're being sent because of the time of year, but receiving one feels like a little card of love & support as well.

I am missing out on some of the fun holiday traditions we've created, like looking at the Brea Neighborhood Christmas Lights.  Fortunately, I had the opportunity to go to Mission Inn in Riverside before all this went down AND I was able to attend our special Summit House dinner with my parents and siblings.  Both were incredibly fun!

I'm slated to be released from bed rest this Thursday, Dec. 22, so who know what Christmas traditions can still be completed before Christmas arrives.  My plan is to take it easy though until Christmas passes.  My only Christmas wish is for this baby to come out healthy and for me to NOT be in the hospital on Christmas Day.

I love Christmas Day and all the family time I get the whole week of Christmas with family birthdays too!  Its my favorite time of year and I just hope I get to play an active role in it, even if its from the laying down position on some couch in my family member's homes.

May your Christmas week be merry and bright!

I prefer blogging, so keep it up! It was good to talk to you this morning. Cook, August, cook!
